Welcome To Mason's Website

August 8, 2016 - August 12, 2016

This week was the first week of school. On the first day of school when we came in we were shown around the class and around the shop. Mr.Miller showed us the different types of machines and what they are used for and how they are used. On Tuesday Dr. Neat talked about himself and what he had done before he was a teacher. Then we played the name game where we had to remember everyone's names in order and repeat them. On the next day we had our first Wednesday challenge. Our challenge is to make a bridge out of pasta and wood glue. In my group is Cole, Elizabeth, Demetri and I. We had a good idea but it ended up not being able to make it because we wouldn't have enough pastas. Thursday we worked on the bridge again again. On Friday we learned how to make a website. It is kind of hard but over time I think I will be able to get the hang of it.

August 15, 2016

Today we worked on our websites again. We had trouble again but we figured it out and now I have to go to the back of the room and plug in the Ethernet cord

August 16, 2016

Today we learned more about making our websites. Although there were a lot of problems with the wifi. We were able to fix the internet but it wasn't allowing me to log in. I had to go to the back and plug in the Ethernet cord and I was then able to log into my account.

August 17, 2016

Today we worked on our bridge again. Our first bridge wasn't a complicated design. It actually was just a stick of pastas but the unfortunate thing that happened was when we weighed our bridge we antecedently broke it. We just weighed it the individual pieces that had broken into three. We started on another bridge that is different from our first one. Our new bridge is a normal design with triangles going on the sides.

August 18, 2016

Today we learned more about Wednesday challenges and how we have to fill out the Wednesday challenge forms. We have to state the problem that we have to solve and our approach on how we are going to accomplish the problem. It is not very hard to do. We have to fill out these forms for every Wednesday challenge and when we finish the challenge we have to fill out the final part.

August 19, 2016

Today we worked on bridges again. We just completely finished our second bridge and will be able to test it the next time we do bridges. I also got my Website up and live. I have to use a application called filezilla and drag a file into it. Anyone is able to view my website anywhere in the world and that is pretty neat.

August 22, 2016

Today we just worked on our website and were able to catch up on what we had missed and filling in the days too. Today went pretty good as far as the internet goes and we started CAD on google sketch-up. We learned two new tools in sketch-up and one was how to orbit around an object and the second one was how to look at something from the same angle. We also took a picture of it and looked around a sketch-up of a skateboard press.

August 23, 2016

We worked on our website again. We learned how to add pictures to them too.

August 24, 2016

We worked on bridges today and we were very productive and we were able to finish two bridges today. One bridge we made was a triangle with triangles on side and the second we made was a stick one because we had 20 minutes left and we were behind in testing by one day

August 25, 2016

We worked on websites again. we learned how to go live with our websites if we haven't been live yet. I had been live already because Jacob had helped me.

August 26, 2016

The veterans came in and we learned about the new JPL invention challenge. Our goal is to get water and a fish from a cup to another cup. We had several ideas and they are trying to figure out which would be the best to make and how to make them. This guy named Mr.Wilton came in and this is his website
Mr. Wilton's Website

August 29, 2016

We worked on our website. We learned how to add links to different websites.

September 6, 2016
Today we learned how to add backgrounds add more things to our website. We also learned how to addimages as our backgrounds.

September 7, 2016
Today we had a Wednesday challenge and it was to make a machine that would be able to tell the difference between a cat and a dog and have it be able to tell you which one it was. This is my Wednesday challenge form
Dog and Cat Wednesday Challenge

September 9, 2016

Today the veterans came in again and talked about the JPL invention challenge. They have narrowed it down to three designs and they now need to make a cad for them and see which one they want to pick to build.

September 12, 2016

Today we worked and learned more about sketch up. We had to make a city and this is what I made.

September 13, 2016
Worked more on sketch up. We had to make a Jenga block to specific dimensions.

September 14, 2016
Today we had a Wednesday challenge where we had we had to make a block to as close as we could to 2 inches. First we had to cut it down to roughly 2 inches then sanded it down to as close as we could to 2 inches.

September 15, 2016
Today we were given another day to work on our block again. We had to make two blocks and the first day we only got done with one. Today we finished the second block.
Block Wednesday Challenge Form

September 21, 2016
Today we had our Wednesday challenge. We had to get a marble into a paper bag with PVC pipes that were cut in half
PVC Pipe Wednesday Challenge

September 22, 2016
Today we worked on our websites again today. We learned how to put videos onto our website directly.

September 23, 2016
Today the JPL team came in and talked more about their possible inventions. They started making proto-types of their inventions

September 26, 2016
Today he showed some peoples websites that were good and got good scores. He also showed us how he graded our websites and the rubric he follows

September 27, 2016
Today we worked more on our websites and were able to catch up on them. Out of class today I got my bottom braces on.

September 28, 2016
Today we were assigned a Wednesday challenge where we had to build a arch bridge out of one material. The bridge can not be held together by any adhesives, it must have a keystone, and the pieces have to have about the same length.

September 29, 2016
We worked more on our bridge design we thought about the material we could use and we thought of using straws and showed Dr. Neat our design but he said it is not a legal design. It was because we forgot that it had to have a keystone and it technically didn't count because the straws were connected and not held together by friction.

September 30, 2016
Today the veterans came and showed us what they have been working on. They have improved their designs and most of them have full CADs on them. My personal favorite is the Kevin Arm because it seems like it would be the fastest and if they do it correctly it could be accurate

October 3, 2016
Today we thought about our final designs and we thought of foam and we built a bridge out of it and it seems like it is going to work really good. It is light, has good friction and we are able to build it really big.

October 4, 2016
Since we are done with our final design I worked on my website. I was able to catch up on the week before.

October 5, 2016
Today was the last day to work on our bridges. Andrew brought the foam that we were going to make the bridge out of. We made the bridge and it looks like we are going to have a good chance of winning.

October 6, 2016
Today was the day we tested to bridge and had the competition. Our bridge looks pretty good to the other teams that we saw. This is our presentation:
Arch Bridge

October 7, 2016
The JPL team came in today and showed us the designs they had. They now have almost fully working designs and high quality CADs made. We also found out who won the Wednesday Challenge. It wasn't our group.

October 10, 2016
Today we learned more about sketchup. We learned about how to use the move tool and had to build a stair case. This is what I built.

October 11, 2016
Today we worked more on our websites and learned more about SketchUp. We learned about the move tool some more and components

November 28, 2016
Today I went into the shop with the same group as the birdge. We had to think of something that we can cut and weld together. We decided that we were going to build a modle house.

November 29, 2016
Today was the last time the JPL group was going to talk to us. The competition is over now and none of CV's inventions made it to the semi finals. All of the invention ended up having something happen with them where they failed. The Kevin Arm was the best and had the fastest time except there was too much water that came out that gave them a 15 second penalty and the roller coaster invention was going to do really good except a rope got stuck around it and it didn't work at all.

November 30, 2016
Today we are having a Wednesday Challenge. Our challenge is kind of like the E challenge. Here is the wednesday challenge form Marshmallow structure Wednesday Challenge

December 1, 2016
Today we finished up the Wednesday challenges. We recieved a design from a differnt team and we had to build it. This is the design and Sketch Up of what we built:
